Better Benefits through Collaboration
You’ve heard the name ICUBA, but you probably don’t know exactly what it is.
ICUBA (the Independent Colleges and Universities Benefits Association) is an idea that started more than 22 years ago when Edward Waters University, Florida Institute of Technology, Nova Southeastern University, Palm Beach Atlantic University, Rollins College, Saint Leo University, and the University of Tampa decided to work together to provide Better Benefits through Collaboration. ICUBA’s founding 7 schools knew that by pooling their resources, they would increase buying power, negotiate better rates, and get better services from insurance carriers. They also believed that making each school part of the decision-making process would help them share ideas and create long-term solutions that benefit everyone. This idea quickly grew, and today, ICUBA includes 24 schools, covering over 15,000 people.
Managing Rising Healthcare Costs
Healthcare costs have increased sharply since the outbreak of COVID-19. Factors contributing to increasing healthcare costs, include unnecessary procedures (waste), new treatments and therapies on the market, variability in hospital pricing, and high-cost claims for medical care and specialty pharmacy drugs. The team at ICUBA collaborates closely with each member school to design and implement value-based benefits that deliver high-quality care to employees and manage costs for everyone. Being an ICUBA member means your school can provide benefits, such as high-quality healthcare coverage, at lower costs than they could on their own. Your employer also benefits by spreading risk across a larger group which creates long-term stability and mitigates spikes in costs due to high claims. As an ICUBA member, your employer can provide you with benefits and programs usually only available at larger organizations.
Better Outcomes through Value-Based Care
If you’re experiencing a health-related issue, chances are ICUBA has a program that will help you get the care you need, when you need it. ICUBA’s value-based benefits, programs, and services are designed to help you identify chronic conditions before they become a problem. By making sure you get the right care, at the right time, and at the right price, you’ll get the best possible care and avoid unnecessary procedures. Your medical insurance includes so much more than the prescription drug coverage* and behavioral health benefits from Florida Blue!
If you need elective surgery, Lantern Surgery Care (formerly Surgery Plus) gives you access to an elite network of surgeons for eligible procedures covered at 100%! You don’t pay your deductible or out-of-pocket expenses, and Lantern will even pay for travel expenses for you and a travel companion. When you visit an Embold Health designated provider, your office copays are waived, and you will be seeing a provider in the top of their field. High-performing providers have lower complication rates, provide better care to their patients, and consistently create better health outcomes for their patients. Your medical insurance includes value-based benefits from some of the best providers in the country, including:
A nurse case manager for complex care and a cancer care team from Florida Blue
Employee Assistance Program (EAP) resources from Aetna, Resources for Living
Virtual musculoskeletal care and chronic pain management from Hinge Health
Type 2 diabetes reversal and weight loss management with Virta Health
An ICUBAcares pharmacist advocate and prescription savings powered by Rx Savings Solutions
A $5 copay for telemedicine from Teladoc
No cost lifestyle management from My Health Novel, and
A robust wellbeing incentive program from Personify (formerly Strive)
ICUBA’s value-based care focuses on helping you get better treatment, not just the most treatment. When you choose value-based care, you benefit from better health outcomes, fewer unnecessary procedures, and lower out-of-pocket costs. The benefits and programs available through ICUBA help control healthcare costs for everyone, including your employer. If you or a family member experience a health-related issue, speak with your Human Resources or Benefits Department to learn how to make the most of your benefits.
*Effective April 1, 2025, behavioral health coverage will be administered by Florida Blue instead of Aetna.
